Casa La Rad Selection reflects our effort to express the best of the estate, seeking the highest level of character, nuances, and quality from the diversity of terroirs and grape varieties present in the estate's 112 hectares of vineyards.
In short, it is our winery's flagship wine.
Grape varieties:
53% Grenache (free-run juice), 14% Maturana Tinta, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano
Aging: Aged for 18 months in 225-liter French (2/3) and American (1/3) oak barrels. 25% of the barrels were new oak.
Altitude: Between 535 and 640 meters | 1,750 - 2,100 feet
Average age of vines: 36 years
Origin:Vineyard profile: The grapes for this unique red blend come from both the highest and lowest plots of the Casa La Rad estate in Rioja Oriental, all located at an altitude of over 500 meters and covered with native vegetation.
As in all vintages, Garnacha is the star and cornerstone of Tinto Selección 2021, complemented by other varieties and terroirs from the estate. The final composition is decided each harvest, always selecting the fruit that best expresses the character of the year.
This approach allows each vintage to faithfully reflect the conditions and natural diversity of the estate.
Vinification and aging:Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts for 15 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by a week of gentle maceration. Malolactic fermentation in 500- and 225-liter French oak barrels.
Tasting notes:It has an intense garnet color in the glass. Complex aromas of black cherry and currant, with notes of black pepper, coffee beans, nutmeg, sweet spices, and vanilla. Seductive and concentrated on the palate, it is a wine of great complexity, with a marked fruit expression, remarkable finesse, and a long and persistent aftertaste.
