Origin:Vineyard Profile: Grapes for this unique Rioja tinto blend come from parcels at various elevations throughout the Casa La Rad estate, in Rioja Oriental, all of which are located at least 525 metres above sea level and feature a native cover crop.
Regardless of vintage, Garnacha serves as the cornerstone of Casa La Rad Tinto Selección , complemented by other varieties and terroirs of the estate. The final blend is determined with each harvest, always selecting fruit that best expresses the character of the year.
This approach ensures that each vintage faithfully reflects the intersection of climate conditions with the natural diversity and depth of the estate.
Winemaking and Aging:Winemaking: Alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts for 15 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by one week of gentle maceration. Malolactic fermentation in 500 and 225-liter French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes:Displays an intense garnet color in the glass. Complex aromas of black cherry and blackcurrant, with notes of black pepper, coffee bean, nutmeg, sweet spices, and vanilla. Seductive and concentrated on the palate, the wine shows great complexity, with pronounced fruit expression, remarkable finesse, and a long, persistent finish.
Additional Comments:James Suckling (2021 vintage): “Deep aromas of sweet roasted spices, vanilla, peppercorns, dark plums and a touch of cured meat. Medium- to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a firm, juicy finish. Lightly peppery and savory in the long finish. Drink from 2027..” (92 points)
