Casa La Rad Malvasía
Edición Especial
2022 · Rioja DOCa
Our Malvasía Edición Especial demonstrates the potential of a very rare Rioja grape variety. Coming from old vines grown in the Ocón Valley, this unique variety reveals its true character in ideal conditions for producing wines of great aromatic complexity, depth, and mineral character.
Grape varieties: 100% Malvasía Riojana (en vaso)
Aging: Between 8 and 10 months in 500-liter semi-new oak barrels
Elevation: 546 meters | 1,791 feet
Average age of vines: 52 years
Origin:Vineyard profile: Grapes come from our Parcel 12 vineyard in the Presas Bajas area of the Casa La Rad estate, located in the Ocón Valley in Rioja Oriental.
At fifty years of age, these vines naturally produce low yields and highly concentrated grapes. This small vineyard block offers a unique expression of the variety, resulting in white wine of great intensity and texture.
Winemaking and Aging:Winemaking: Fermentation with selected yeasts in 500-liter oak barrels (50% new / 50% semi-new). This wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation.
Tasting Notes:With a brilliant golden color and great aromatic purity, this Malvasía expresses elegant notes of white flowers, stone fruit, and light honey, accompanied by subtle citrus and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is broad and structured, with an enveloping texture and a natural freshness that balances its richness. Barrel aging adds complexity and delicate toasted notes.
Additional Comments:James Suckling (vintage 2022): «Rich nose of quince, ripe pears and touches of tropical fruit and lilies. Medium-bodied, dry, zesty and lightly saline, finishing with a savory herbal note. Drink now or hold.». (92 points)
Production: 2,665 bottles
