Casa La Rad

Special Edition

2022 · Rioja DOCa

Our Malvasía Special Edition showcases the great potential of a very rare Rioja variety. It comes from old vines grown in the Ocón Valley, where this unique variety finds ideal conditions to express wines of great aromatic complexity, depth, and mineral character.

Grape varieties: 100% Malvasía Riojana (bush-trained)

Aging: Between 8 and 10 months in semi-new 500-liter oak barrels.

Altitude: 546 meters | 1,800 feet

Average age of vines: 52 years

Origin:

Vineyard profile: The grapes come from plot 12 of the Presas Bajas area, within the Casa La Rad estate, located in the Ocón Valley, in Rioja Oriental.

At around fifty years old, these vines produce naturally low yields and highly concentrated grapes. This small enclave offers a unique expression of the variety, resulting in white wines of great intensity and broad texture.

Vinification and aging:

Vinification: Fermentation with selected yeasts in 500-liter oak barrels (50% new / 50% semi-new). This wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation.

Tasting notes:

Bright golden in color and with great aromatic purity, this Malvasia expresses elegant notes of white flowers, stone fruit, and light honey, accompanied by subtle citrus and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with an enveloping texture and a natural freshness that balances its richness. Barrel aging adds complexity and delicate toasted notes.

Additional comments:

James Suckling ( 2022 vintage): "Intense aroma of quince, ripe pears, and hints of tropical fruits and lilies. Medium-bodied, dry, acidic, and slightly salty, with a savory herbal finish." (92 points)

Production: 2 ,665 bottles
