Special Edition
2021 · Rioja DOCa
We produce our Special Edition Garnacha to reveal the extraordinary quality potential of the most emblematic red grape variety in Rioja Oriental, sourced from old vines grown in exceptional soils at high altitude.
Grape varieties: 100% Garnacha (bush-trained)
Aging: 14 months in 225-liter French oak barrels, 50% new oak.
Altitude: 640 meters | 2,100 feet
Average age of vines: 52 years
Origin:Vineyard profile: The grapes come exclusively from a plot located at the highest point of the Casa La Rad estate, in the Ocón Valley, a little-known corner of Rioja Oriental characterized by its rugged landscape, native vegetation, and great biodiversity.
The terrain features mineral-rich mountainous soils, with the presence of limestone, clay, and degraded bedrock.
Vinification and aging:Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation took place in 500-liter open French oak barrels using selected yeasts and gentle extraction techniques during maceration.
Half of the production underwent malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 12 to 14 months in semi-new barrels and is certified vegan.
Tasting notes:Garnet color with ruby edges. Clean and transparent.
Intense aroma with notes of red fruits—strawberry and raspberry—and floral hints of jasmine and violets.
Powerful yet elegant on the palate, with a silky entry. Its pronounced red fruit character persists in a long, aromatic finish.
Additional comments:Tim Atkin MW ( 2020 vintage): "Aromas of mint, pine, and wild thyme are the prelude to a bright, refreshing, and elegant palate, with notes of cinnamon, redcurrant, and wild strawberry." (93 points)
Production: 2 ,300 bottles
